Joseph’s final request was a direct reflection of his unwavering faith in God’s promise.
This morning’s Bible reading brought me to the end of Genesis. Joseph is at the end of his life and gives very specific instructions saying, “God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones from here.” (Genesis 50:25)
Joseph believed without a shadow of doubt that God would bring His people back to the land He promised. So much so that he said, “Do not leave me here. Take my bones with you.”
Let’s get into it.
Faith you can take to the bank
Joseph’s instructions were rooted in the covenant God made with Abraham generations earlier. God had promised Abraham that his descendants would inherit the land of Canaan (Genesis 15:13–16). Even though Joseph spent nearly his whole life in Egypt, he believed God would one day bring Israel back to the land sworn to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
Joseph was looking forward to something he had not seen with his natural eyes, but he trusted the Word of the Lord enough to plan his burial around it. He believed God’s promise was more real than the palace he lived in.
And you and I can live the very same way. God has given us His Word, and He is faithful to perform it.
If He said it, He will do it.
Healing is for our bodies.
Provision is for our households.
Peace is for our minds.
Victory is for our lives.
Lack is from the enemy, but abundance is from the Lord.
This is not wishful thinking. This is standing firmly upon the promises of God, just as Joseph did. He staked his future, literally his bones, on God’s faithfulness.
That is why the Bible must be our authority:
Not culture.
Not opinions.
Not feelings.
The Word of God is eternal, unshakable, and true.
I have seen it work in my own life. God is good on His promises. When you live as though you actually believe His Word, everything changes.
What promise do you need to take to the bank today?
Healing?
Provision?
Deliverance?
Restoration?
Whatever it may be, hold fast. God’s Word never fails.
Joseph trusted God to the very end, and you can too.
A Call to Salvation
The greatest promise of all is salvation through Jesus Christ. Every other promise of God flows from a relationship with Him. The Bible says in Romans 10:13, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved”. That includes you.
If you have never made Jesus the Lord of your life, you can pray this prayer right now:
Heavenly Father, I come to You in the Name of Jesus. I confess that I am a sinner and I need a Savior. I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that He died for my sins, and that You raised Him from the dead. Today I choose to turn away from sin and receive Jesus as my Lord and Savior. Thank You for forgiving me, for cleansing me, and for making me a child of God. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
If you prayed that prayer, welcome into the family of God! Now you can take His Word to the bank, knowing that every promise in the Bible belongs to you.
