Prayer and Fasting 2025: Day 11

“Platform for a New Dawn: The Anointing and Blessings of the Giant Slayer”

If you have not read 1 Samuel 17:1-58 yet, I highly recommend working it into your devotions, especially with the family. It is a story everyone will find a connection to in some way.

If you have more questions on Prayer and Fasting, I just finished this book, and it is well written and helped me greatly! Ted Shuttlesworth Jr will be with Jonathan next week to finish out the fast in Fort Worth, Texas. I am looking forward to those meetings as I love to watch Ted Shuttlesworth Sr do his thing.

He has this gift where he can know things about people’s bodies and then works God’s healing power on that person. I find it fascinating and awesome to watch. Find him on Youtube now or tune in next week!

Pay attention to what irritates you because you may be on your way to confront whatever that may be.

I will face the giants. I’m not calling them my giants. Goliath wasn’t Davids’s giant. He went there and took him out. Take things out that may not pertain to you. Be the authority where your foot treads.

Fighters have a confidence.

Characteristics to Be a Giant Killer

  1. Unwavering faith.
    • Goliath couldn’t shake Davids’s faith, nor could his brothers, nor could Saul.
  2. Courage and initiative.
    • Killing Goliath wasn’t his assignment. He recognized what needed to be done and did it, not wait for someone else to do it.
  3. Preparation and skill.
    • There has to be something you are good at. David never went to battle, but he did know how to use a sling effectively.
  4. They can handle criticism.
    • God will keep you small for your own sake.
    • Some people are one mean comment away from retreating into their shell for 3 months.
    • Never spend any time explaining yourself to people who are committed to misunderstanding you.
    • God can only use you to the level or criticism you can handle.
      • Father, put a grace on us where people’s words will not affect us from this day forward, in Jesus’ name, amen.

Now lets deal with the giants.

The Five Giants to Prepare For

  1. Goliath
    • Represents something no one has ever conquered before.
      • Nobody had ever defeated Goliath before.
    • What giants are there in your sphere of influence and what do they represent?
    • Are you going to accept everyone’s limitations or are you going to defeat Goliath?
      • Everyone counted David out for being anything noteworthy: his dad, brothers, king, Goliath. Don’t let others define you.

Allow me to declare it over your life, you will be the first in your family: the first to break alcohol, the first to be a millionaire, whatever the new territory may be. Go further than anyone in your family has ever gone.

2. Saph 2 Samuel 21:18

  • He represents the attack that comes when you are tired, weak, or exhausted.
    • The attack that comes to wear you out or drain your strength.
  • You kill Goliath, then another giant comes along to take you out.
    • Never make a decision when you are tired.
    • “Saph your strength.” Get it? Like “zap your strength”? Nevermind.
  • Recognize that some problems are not meant to be solved, they are meant to wear you out.

3. Lahmi 1 Chronicles 20:5

  • The giant of persistent challenges, challenges you do not understand.
    • Stand firm until you are done and win.
  • He is the less known of the brothers, so he represents problems we do not understand or anticipate.
    • If you don’t quit, the devil will. I don’t have to understand a challenge to fight. I don’t know why you are picking on me, but you’re going to regret it.

4. Ishbi-Benob. 2 Samuel 21:16

  • He symbolizes the sudden and unexpected challenge or threat as well as the importance of readiness for the unexpected.
  • These giants require immediate response and adaptation.
    • Amos 6:1 woe to those who slept.
      • Fasting and prayer shows we are not in spiritual slumber. It is a way of going on the offensive.
  • Ishbi-Benob shows abrupt life changes. Sudden attacks.
    • This year the devil will find out he chose the wrong person.

5. The Unnamed Giant with 6 fingers and 6 toes. 2 Samuel 21:20.

  • This represents a unique challenge.
  • This is where you say I’ve never seen this before.
  • The reminder that not all problems are straight forward and require unique solutions as well as creative and unorthodox means.

The illusion of strength.

Giants threaten and harass, but they don’t deal well with confrontation. Stand up to them. You don’t beat them by hoping they go away, confront them now.

Confront your giants.

Goliaths huge head was intimidating if you were fighting with a sword, but when you have a head the size of a billboard, it makes it a little easier to hit with a rock. All of Goliath’s weapons and armor were designed to counteract an attack from a sword, not a rock, so he was not ready to handle that, and David received the victory.

God will equip you for what needs to be done. Have faith, you can trust Him.

The Eightfold Blessing of Giant Killers

  1. New introductions. Associations change.
    • Many of your friends now won’t be able to handle it. They won’t be able to come along with you. People will like you as long as you do not surpass them.
    • When you kill a giant, people notice.
    • Don’t waste energy trying to pull people forward who are hell bent to stay where they are. As God elevates you, broaden your tent. Gods got a big family.
    • The passage of time doesn’t produce blessings. Doing something for a long time doesn’t bring a reward. Giant killing, taking something out, that gets rewarded.
  2. Change of appearance and financial level.
    • Jonathan, the son of Saul, put his garment on David. 1 Samuel 18:4
    • Jonathan was technically the heir to the throne, but he recognized Davids anointing.
      • Crazy to think that Jonathan was backing David from the beginning, yet Saul and Davids own brothers were against him.
      • Celebrate where people are going. God promoting someone is not demoting you.
      • Joseph went from the prison to the palace.
    • New garment: God will deck you out. You won’t be wearing the same clothes this year. David woke up living as a shepherd in his dad’s house and went to bed in the palace all in the same day.
      • Side note I got a chuckle from, David triple checked if he was going to be tax exempt after beating Goliath. So relatable.
  3. A new sphere of influence.
    • David got to talk with the king. When you kill giants, you get a new sphere of influence.
    • What is something you can take out? In your neighborhood, city, state, nation.
      • A nation is a collection of families.
  4. Celebrity.
    • Definition of celebrity, a state of being well known. People look for someone to influence them, so why not be that human example? Daniel 12:3
  5. World-class problem-solving skills.
    • God will point a giant out for you so you can develop solutions. You will never run in fear from a problem.
  6. You cause others to rise.
    • The other giants in the chapters to come were not killed by David, they were killed by other people. They watched what David did and said, “Hey, I can do this too.”
    • You can actually do this.
    • Become somebody who encourages others to grab a sword and go to battle. Pull people up.
    • What God does for one, He will do for all.
  7. Every giant I kill, my children won’t have to.
    • David fought his whole life, Solomon never had to fight once.
    • A righteous man leaves an inheritance both spiritually and physically for his children and my children’s children.
    • It only takes one person in a family to say enough is enough, I am clearing this out.
  8. You brake the hold of that giant in yor nation.
    • Bars can’t stay in business if people quit drinking.
    • Your fighting isn’t just for you. What is a nation but a collection of families.
    • Victory is guaranteed if you stand, and it will affect your nation.
    • That is exactly what is happening today in the United States and around the world.

Father, raise up giant killers today. A new generation of Davids. A new generation of Jonathans. Give us strength and boldness. Thank you for your confidence. In Jesus name, amen.

First giant to take out in your life is sin.

Nail it to the cross today. Deal with it today.

Pray this right now.

Dear Lord, I admit that I have sinned and repent now. I receive forgiveness by the blood of Jesus. I am a new creature; old things have passed away and all things are now new. Thank you for saving me, in Jesus’ name, amen.
