This is the Day that the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it.
One year ago today, I began my journey of not relying on a corporation to pay my bills. I stepped out in faith knowing God was calling me deeper, that my talents, gifts, and desires were converging, that He was working all things together for my good.
I just needed to get out of the boat.
Let’s get into it.
God equips those He calls
From that very first day, I knew God would equip me. My faith has never wavered in the last 365 days of walking in this. Every day, He has proven Himself faithful, showing me victory after victory and guiding my steps.
You cannot walk on water until you leave the safety of the boat.
When Peter saw Jesus walking on the water, he said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” And Jesus said, “Come.” (Matthew 14:28–29). When Peter left the boat, he was able to walk on the water, just as Christ said. It was not until Peter looked upon the waves and the raging storm that he began to sink. And what did Jesus say?
You of little faith, why did you doubt?
Doubt is the opposite of belief and fear is the opposite of faith. When we get our eyes off of the promises of God, fear and doubt creep in. When we begin to look at the circumstances and walk by sight, we begin to drown in the thing of this world. But when we walk by faith, those things no longer have dominion over us. We know God’s promises and that He is faithful to keep His Word.
Looking back now, I can see how God has been preparing me for this season all along. Every experience, every lesson, every small act of obedience built the faith I would need to step out when He called. As I sit here writing this, I am amazed to think that the life I am leading now is what God had for me all along, to give me the desires of my heart and to utilize my talents and gifts to their full potential.
God wants you at your full potential.
Even in the “delays” and “detours”, I see they were a great part of shaping who I am and where I am. I cannot put it into words right now, but there is a verse that comes to mind:
This is the day the Lord has made; I will rejoice and be glad in it.
(Psalm 118:24)
This day, this exact moment, God put things in motion long ago. I did not see the end from the beginning, but He did. The Bible says that He has good plans for us, to give us hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). He sees the end from the beginning and that is where our trust comes into play.
If God is calling you to step out in faith, know this: He equips everyone He calls. Take His hand, move forward confidently, and watch Him work.
Until next time, my friend.
